Description

One of my closest friends has been on me nearly two years to make a lavender soap. I’ve resisted because I just do not enjoy lavender. His persistence (and overall idea) finally won me over. I present to you, in my friend’s words, Mont Ventoux: “Mont Ventoux is a mountain in the Provence region of southern France. Nicknamed the "Beast of Provence", it has become legendary as the scene of one of the most grueling climbs in the Tour de France bicycle race, which has ascended the mountain fifteen times since 1951. The French author Jean Giono stated that "Lavender is the soul of Provence”, and one of the places where this is most evident are the foothills of Ventoux and indeed the entire area surrounding the mountain. The lavender here blooms from around the last week of June to the beginning of August when it is harvested. The perfume of the air is intoxicating as the lavender intertwines with the other subtle herbal aromas of the region, most notably rosemary. The effects of these two in combination has been studied for centuries and shown to relieve stress, anxiety, and be both calming and invigorating. The goal of “Mont Ventoux” is to bring you to that place. Relax and enjoy the French countryside and imagine Edith Piaf singing “L'hymne à L'amour” as you lunch on Bouillabaisse and Salade Niçoise in the sunshine.” The scent is nearly straight lavender, accented with a hint of rosemary.
