I still pass by it every morning on my way to work - the old barbershop near Pearl and Brookpark where my dad and I would occasionally spend a Saturday morning getting de-hippified. A barbershop was an interesting place for a little boy. I remember the long line of barber chairs, each one with a strop attached, and the glass counter that held all sorts of manly potions for customers to buy. I also remember the smells - citrusy, spicy, and exotic. The old barbershop is long gone - replaced by a bar and a mattress store; but whenever I want to visit it again in my mind, I can use Shannon's Barbershop to take me back.
