Among the many soapmaking cities of Italy, Genoa, Milan, and Naples stand above all others. These centers of culture and commerce are renowned for the high quality shaving and bath soaps they produce, and no soaps are more highly prized than the traditional almond soft soaps known as as the crema da barba all’olio di mandorla, the shaving creams with almond oil. Most such soaps are made with tallow, the rendered beef fat left over from the the great meat processors of Italy, but we at Barrister & Mann decided to take a different approach. Drawing upon the results of our shaving cream research, we created a completely vegan shaving soap comprised of only five main ingredients: stearic acid, castor oil, coconut oil, rice bran oil, and glycerin. This simple but superb soap produces a beautifully thick, rich, lubricious lather at the cost of no animal lives and is scented with the traditional almond fragrance for which the originals are so justly famous. The name comes from the Italian term for "Three Cities," a reference to the Genoan, Milanese, and Neapolitan master soapmakers of the Old World to whom we pay homage.
